You ARE supposed to vote in categories that you are in, just as you would any other category and be sure to give a score to your own entry as well.
They are really not votes but they are scores. We are trusting everyone not to game the system (by voting with an extremely high score for one entry,
and an extremely low score for another entry for instance) and to vote how they truly feel about each entry, including their own.
Obviously, most people feel that their own entry is very good or else they would not have written and performed/recorded it. That is normal.
That being said, some people will actually give a higher vote or rating to another entry besides their own. We have had a good history of people voting honestly.
That being said, In some cases, if it appears that someone did not vote conscientiously, or their votes seem to be too random or extreme,
then their ratings may be disqualified.
